Video: How We Came to Make Almond Butter

Dear brothers and sisters,

Some 44 years ago Jesse and John Kozak created a nursery dedicated to heirloom and historic fruit trees. Jesse was a former college teacher and John, a teacher and administrator with the Biodynamic Farming and Gardening Association of Southern California. After some ten years we closed the nursery and Jesse went on to found Living Tree Community Foods. We rejoice in making alive, organic almond butter; the pillar of our business. We support family farmers, the restoration of Hetch Hetchy Valley, the return of the buffalo, edible schoolyards, and community gardens. We believe that if you are concerned about the food you eat, you should make every effort to grow at least a part of it yourself.

May we wish you and family a delightful winter of good health, prosperity and success,

Macadamia Nut Butter – Alive and Organic

Living Tree Community Foods Organic Macadamia Butter is created in Berkeley, California from alive, raw organic macadamia nuts. It is produced slowly, in small batches, to give it a wondrous, creamy texture. We invite you to taste the aliveness of this outstanding nut butter.

In our proprietary process, we make the macadamia butter slowly, over several days. We slice the nuts and never grind. This preserves the flavors and properties of the raw macadamia nut. We make it frequently, in small batches, so it's always fresh and alive.

The Art of Memorization: How Natural Medicine Can Support Academic Success

Remote image

by "A Midwestern Doctor"

The primary mechanism our society uses to determine one’s eventual wealth and place in the social hierarchy is their academic performance. However, many simply don’t succeed in it despite putting immense effort in, as students are typically told what to do (e.g., copy the teacher) rather than being shown how to do it or being given the space to discover their own learning process.

Sadly, since government educational subsidies are based on how many students attend an institution, schools are not incentivized to produce.

Note: A recent study found that throughout history, whenever there are periods of internal conflict, states have introduced education reform that is designed to indoctrinate citizens to accept the status quo.1

In turn, schooling has shifted more and more to creating subservience and conformity rather than creating a generation of creative critical thinkers who can solve the issues our country faces and innovate solutions that advance us into the future.

This in turn, is both highly unfair to those who are put through the academic grinder (but not inherently suited for success within it) and an immense waste of national resources. For example, as the years go by, we keep spending more money on research and education:
